About Yohann
Nature photographer
Based in Vancouver in British Columbia, comfortably curled up in between ocean and mountains.
In a nutshell,
For me, photography is more than just capturing an image; it's a meditative process, a feeling, a sanctuary. It’s a way to deeply connect with the world around me.
I'm driven to be out in the field from dusk till dawn, even under the cover of night, in pursuit of that unique moment. The thrill of releasing the shutter is just the tip of the iceberg.
The real work, and the true joy, lies in the patient wait. It’s in those quiet moments of observation that photography transcends the mechanical process and becomes a calling, a lifestyle.
My photographic style is deeply intuitive, driven by emotion rather than strict technique; I feel the image before I capture it. I dedicate myself to scouting locations, patiently awaiting those fleeting moments when light and subject converge in perfect harmony.
I'm drawn to dramatic light—the golden hues of sunrise and sunset, the ethereal glow of twilight, and the stark beauty of the falling snow.
When I am out in the field,
I often venture out with a specific vision in mind, knowing that nature rarely adheres to our plans.
To embrace this uncertainty, remaining open-minded and curious, is key, as well as being present in these environments where nature is the greatest teacher.
Through my lens, I explore various facets of nature, from broad landscapes and animal portraits to intimate scenes. Capturing the spirit of wildlife in their element is what resonates deeply with me.
Extraordinary beauty can be found not only in iconic landscapes but also right outside our door. The time spent observing and waiting allows me to connect with my surroundings, understand them more deeply, and discover often-overlooked hidden gems.
Ultimately, my goal is to inspire you to reconnect with nature and protect its fragile beauty.
It is a privilege to witness the wonders of our world,
A treasure to cherish and protect. It's a sobering thought that future generations may not have the same opportunity to see as much as we do.
As a photographer and artist, I strive to create prints of exceptional quality, using only the finest archival materials to ensure their lasting brilliance. It's about prioritising quality over quantity, delivering artwork I'm deeply proud of—pieces that truly honour the beauty of the natural world.
I also feel a responsibility to contribute to conservation efforts. By sharing my work, I hope to inspire others to do the same—every little bit helps. As part of this commitment, a portion of all sales from this website will be donated to environmental non-profits.
It is in the wild places,
Where the edge of the earth meets the corners of the sky,
The human spirit is fed.

Capture
Even the most wonderful picture in the world would have no value at all if it brings damage and disruption in the process.
As a nature photographer I am always trying to have a minimal impact on my subjects, even if it means missing a shot from time to time.

Editing
Some beautiful results can be achieved through a very gentle editing process. Sometimes it requires more work.
As an artist I don't want to bind my creativity, my intent is to inspire, not to deceive.
If you would like to know more about how I edited a particular image:

While focusing on producing esthetic fine art photographs, a good part of my work is also dedicated to promote the protection and conservation of biodiversity.
